Preston Pollard in AK

© 2011 Brian Adams

A couple of weeks ago, Ash and I braved the sub-zero temperatures with skateboarder Preston Pollard to photograph a trick he recently filmed with a camera crew for a documentary about his life and growing up in Alaska. As you can see above, skateboarding in Alaska can be very difficult in the winter; this shot alone took a couple of hours from start to finish. First, Preston had to set up wood on the ground to roll up to the pipe, which he had to adjust several times, and then he had to take meticulous care to keep his shoes and grip tape snow-free and dry as he worked to perfect his landing and as Ash and I worked to create the best shot (good lighting, Ash). As always it was a pleasure photographing Preston; you can view our last shoot with him in NYC here.
