Beth

I am not sure that all new parents find themselves in this situation, but Brian and I have been forced to realize over the past few days that Brian & Ash has, without our intentions, turned into a baby blog. We are obsessed with our son. Before Elliott, we never knew before that rolling over could be such a glorious feat.

We know quite a few of you have started following us during our pregnancy (and because of our pregnancy), so we will keep everyone updated on Elliott's continued growth and development. But, alas, there are other stories that must be told as well.

Today's post is dedicated to one of my very first muses and only sister, Beth, who has been attending her first graduate classes at the American Film Institute this week. Beth is the reason I ventured up to Alaska before I decided to move here, and she is also the reason that I initially fell in love with photography. (Beth will tell you that we spent more days as teens making and developing photos of each other than of anyone else.)

Before she left, Beth and I had one last afternoon-long photoshoot to tide us over until we see each other again. Beth, Alaska (and I) will miss you, but we are so proud of you and can't wait to see what stories you will tell over the coming years.

Elliott Around Town - NYC

All iPhone Photos © 2012 Brian & Ash

When Brian and I dreamed of what our ideal lives as parents would be like, we dreamed of showing our son the world. We wanted to show him as many places as we possibly could and show him that two people can love each other, what they do, and the places and people around them. This past week was our first opportunity to travel a long distance with Elliott, and it far exceeded our expectations. The three of us felt like a little gang in the big city of New York, and our trip represented a lot of firsts for Elliott and our small family. Here is just a glimpse of some of the places we found ourselves in during the course of the busy week. From Manhattan's Midtown to the Lower East Side to the Upper West Side to Brooklyn to New Jersey, Beacon, New Paltz, and Walden, we moved together, exploring, attending meetings, talking with people on the street, catching up here and there with old friends, making appointments, making photos, riding in cabs, trains, and subways, and walking, walking, walking.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to be able to do this kind of travel for work, and we can't wait to share with you what we worked on! More soon!

Adams Family in NYC!

© 2012 Brian Adams

The Adams family is in New York this week working on an assignment that we will discuss in detail at a later date, but for now, here are just a few photos from the trip here and our first day in the city. Elliott was a champion traveler—he didn’t even cry once, but stood excitedly on my lap, squealing and laughing while staring at the bright lights of New York City for the full 30 minutes of our descent.

When we landed, Brian and I stepped into our taxi and each inhaled and exhaled a deep, long breath. The last time we were here, we were driving away, newly pregnant with Elliott. And now here we are again, in this metropolis of art, movement, music, and character with our son in our arms. This city has always held special significance for both of us, and walking these streets after the kind of a year we've had feels like a bit of a homecoming. New York, we love you.
